Fiat Group Automobiles are the largest manufacturer of cars in Italy. Much of the success of the Fiat branded cars has been in Europe, with Italy being its biggest market within Europe. Fiats biggest selling vehicles have historically been aimed at the smaller end of the market, and this is true of todays models, with citycars and supermini cars accounting for 84% of Fiat branded sales.
In more recent years Fiat has more purposely pursued a presence in emerging markets, producing the Fiat Palio and Siena for South American markets, as well as releasing the Linea to Latin America and the Middle East, as well as the traditional European stomping ground. The Fiat Automobile Group have won the Car of the Year award 12 times in forty years, which surpasses any other marque. Out of these twelve victories, nine are directly from the Fiat brand.
In Fiat’s Own Words..Fiat don’t seem to be too big on producing lots of advertising blurb, which is a pleasant change for such a mainstream manufacturer. One of their most successful slogans they have used is “Driven by passion. Fiat.” Short and sweet.
In Our Words… Fiat has been most successful when concentrating on what they do best, producing small quirky cars for city use. They have sometimes gone too quirky in some peoples eyes, but that is in the DNA of Fiat.
Fiat Maintenance… Many of the Fiat cars are small city cars, and the older models especially benefit from very simple layouts, meaning many owners work on the vehicles themselves, saving them both time and money.
Interesting Fiat Fact… The first ever Fiat to win the European Car of the Year award was the Fiat 124 in 1967.
