Mitsubishi is made up of a group of Japanese multinational companies. They have had extraordinary motorsport success, especially in endurance racing. How did this come about? Where do the three diamonds in the logo come from? And what else do they make? Here we will look at some of their biggest achievements, failures and explore its legacy.
Yataro Iwasaki founded The Mitsubishi Company in 1870. When the company was first established its primary business activity was in shipping. It diversified into shipping related businesses, buying their own coal mine to fuel their ships, and a shipyard to repair them. They even started a marine insurance company to insure their cargo.
Interesting Mitsubishi fact - Mitsubishi caused one of the biggest corporate scandals in Japanese history when it was discovered they had been covering up 30 defects, over a 27-year period. This caused them to have to recall nearly 1 Million vehicles, and led to the resignation and arrest of the company president and 23 other employees. Some of the defects were as serious as failing brakes, and being prone to rolling over. This also led to Mitsubishi getting sued by individual people.

a MITSUBISHI SHOGUN ELEGANCE DI-D 2005
Very pleasant to drive. Reliable but repairs are expensive. Clutch replacement was approx. £1,700 including fitting. Fuel pipes from tank to underside of vehicle £231 plus one hours labour to fit. Ongoing problems with sensors on transfer box mean two wheel drive unable to be selected. Overall satisfied, but would not recommend as a genuine off road vehicle.

Usually have to go to Main Dealer for parts and they are very very overpriced. This Site is brilliant. It helps everyone to get the parts they need at a reasonable price.

Without doubt the worst vehicle I have ever owned. Totally impractical for work, tiny load space, hellishly expensive to run, underpowered beyond a joke considering the MPG. Overheats constantly and an engineering quality that would make 9 year olds look like geniuses. Only good for a school run, absolutely no good if you need to work for a living.

Superb car which I have had now for over 150,000 miles.(185,000 total)
Had a head gasket replaced but nothing else major so far, original clutch and exhaust system. Shouldn't tempt fate but hoping to do another 2/3 years which will get her to 250,000 miles.
