Three generations of estates

The original V70 is the estate version of the S70. Both of them replaced the 850 range, which was available as both a saloon and estate. As with other estates, the V in V70 stands for versatility. Despite smaller dimensions, the second generation had an increased cargo space. The third generation changed to the Ford EUCD platform, and shared much of its interior with the S80.

Varying types

There was an all wheel drive version that was originally called the V70 XC, but this was later changed to just the XC70, and the V designation was dropped altogether. The sportier awd model, the V70R AWD, kept the V designation. The newest version also saw the introduction of an optional power boot lid. As with all modern Volvo’s the seats are of an orthopedic design.
