A Global Success
The Yaris was first launched in the UK in 1999. Since its launch we have seen three different generations introduced by Toyota. When they first started marketing the car they called it the ‘Echo’ in many countries, but after the second incarnation they united the name, and it is now referred to as Yaris in all markets.
A Different Approach
Toyota wanted the Yaris to stand out from the crowd. They succeeded. Whether you’re a fan or not, nobody would describe the Yaris styling as bland. It also featured some quirky little features that were designed to compliment the lifestyle of the average supermini owner. One of these was the adjustable rear seat that could be slid forwards or backwards in the same way as the front seats, giving owners a choice between increased boot space or extra legroom.
