A Massive Success
The Corolla became the world’s best selling car just eight years after its introduction. Despite not always holding the top spot since then, it has always been amongst the best selling cars in the world. Toyota reached the very significant milestone of 40 million sales in 2013.
The Corolla was first introduced in 1966. This means it averaged just under one million sales every year for 47 years. In this time it has been revised no less than 10 times, giving us 11 generations in total. Although it was originally available as a hatchback, since 2006 the hatchback model has been called the Auris. Its biggest direct competitor in the UK in recent years has been the Honda Civic.
