At the height of their popularity Saab’s biggest selling vehicle was the 900. During this period the 900 underwent one major overhaul, and won many awards along the way, with the second generation Saab winning a whole host of design awards all around the world. The 900 S Turbo proved particularly popular, until the late 90’s when the 900 was replaced by the newer 9000.
Saab re-opened the doors on its plant in Trollhattan on 12th August 2013. It wasn’t long before production of the 9-3 had started again, although this time with a new electric motor. By December they had commenced production of the petrol model, with the model having undergone a minor facelift. The production of the older 9-3 is just temporary while they are working on designing their first vehicle, the Saab 9-3 Phoenix.
In Saab’s Own Words.. Saab used several slogans over the years, most relating to their aeronautical history or build quality. It’s a pity other cars aren’t built this way. We don’t make compromises we make Saab’s. The Well-Built Swede.
In Our Words… Saab was always one of the smaller manufacturers, and tended to have a very loyal hardcore customer base. The build quality always seemed good, and the safety levels were high, but we’ve heard some scary stories about major failures, although admittedly they are few and far between.
Saab Maintenance… Saab’s change of ownership, first to GM, then Spyker, followed by the failed sale to a Chinese consortium, and then the eventual purchase by NEVS, all disrupted the supply chain for Saab parts and spares. Although a while has passed since, many parts are still hard to source.
Interesting Saab Fact… In the James Bond novels of the 1980s, Bond’s personal vehicle was a Saab 900. Bond had lots of gadgets fitted, and dubbed the car the ‘Silver Beast’. Saab subsequently had a real ‘Silver Beast’ built to virtually the same spec, which now sits in the Saab museum in Sweden.

Car has been in Family for 18 years as it was 1 year old SAAB reps car when bought. Initial trouble with air con but since then has been fine( Am I tempting fate ). Not the most energy efficient but with the back seats down it will take anything and it will stay with us unless there is a major failure. Still very comfortable in its old age.

This silly little fault of a short in the plug and socket of the rear light is a nuisance in a car that is giving good service otherwise.
