The air flow meter (mass air flow sensor) calculates the amount of air entering the fuel injection system. When a vehicle's air flow meter is faulty, it can cause a variety of problems resulting in a decline in engine performance.
Telltale signs there is a problem with the air flow meter are engine stalling, hesitiation or starts to idle. Your check engine light may also come on.
Before you rush out to replace the air flow meter, it is worth removing and giving it a good clean as it can often get dirty. Also make sure the problem is not with the fuel pump as the symptons are very similar.
If your air flow meter has reached the end of it’s life cycle, it can be easily replaced at low cost and fitted with minimal effort.
