The Sporty Executive
The Rover 75 received wide acclaim, especially for its styling, so it made sense for them to create a sportier version using MG, using the good reviews the car had already received, and adding a little MG magic to cater to a whole new niche within the market. This first generation of MG ZT was very similar to the Rover 75, but featured more aggressive body styling, a revised suspension setup, a slightly tweaked chassis, and new wheels and tires. The MG ZT also enjoyed a larger selection of engines.
A Facelift To Remember
Two years after the MG ZT went on sale, they performed an update. The update made the car considerably sportier, featuring an engine from a Ford Mustang, rear wheel drive, and quad exhausts, which are the biggest styling signal between the earlier and later models. The vast majority of the tuning and setup was performed by Prodrive.
