The origins of the Mercedes Benz name can be traced all the way back to the Benz Patent Motorwagen of 1886, which is widely believed to be the first automobile ever produced. The two parts of the name weren’t combined until some years later in 1926. They have been at the forefront of the automobile industry ever since, producing a range of luxury cars, commercial vehicles, and competing in several motor sports events.
These days Mercedes is considered amongst the big 3 German luxury carmakers, with Audi and BMW being the other 2. These three manufacturers make up the best selling luxury manufacturers in the world today. Mercedes AMG arm is the tuning arm known for producing the sportier variants of their models. In motorsport Mercedes are best known for a long-standing relationship at the height of Motorsport, with McLaren in F1.
In Mercedes Own Words… The Mercedes-Benz slogan is ‘Das Beste oder nichts’. In English this translates to ‘The best or nothing’.
In Our Words… Mercedes have always been a prestigious marque, but their new design philosophy seems to be proving the most popular for many generations of designs.
Mercedes Maintenance… Mercedes are one of the oldest manufacturers, and many enthusiasts maintain their own cars. This has led to a huge owners network in the form of owners clubs etc. These provide a resource definitely worth tapping into if you’re considering working on your own car, or finding an aftermarket mechanic.
Interesting Mercedes Fact… In 1888 Bertha Benz, the wife of Karl Benz, became the first person to drive the motor vehicle over a long distance. On the way she had to improvise to solve several problems, and she inadvertently invented brake linings to overcome a problem with the brakes.

This car has done over 250,000 miles so not surprising that some parts are wearing out. Just had to replace the exhaust box - but it is the original one that is 12 years old. Still drives well.

Wheel arches starting to show rust and a few minor electrical problems, but still a great car.

The indicator units on the front are only held in by one clip. As the clips age they become brittle and crack and the indicator unit falls out. I have lost 3 indicators due to this. My advice is to drill a couple of small holes in the indicator bracket and use cable ties to attach the unit to the body of the car

Only had it for a few weeks but as a family of six we needed a six seater, had Chrysler's before but decided to have a change and have to say I am very pleased with it. As you would expect from a Merc this car feels solid and robust but not heavy to drive. The drive is smooth and light and feels quite luxurious inside and the 3rd row seats are actually quite roomy. Don't know how the petrol consumption compares yet as I've only driven around town but it doesn't seem to be any thirstier than the Chrysler at this time.
