Defining A Shaky Start

When the Ka was first introduced in 1996 it received mixed reactions from the motoring press and public. It was a complete new market for Ford, and, despite being based on the Fiesta platform; the Ka featured some rather striking design accents. The very early models featured a weak engine, the design of which dated back to the Ford Anglia, but the introduction of the Duratec unit allowed for more spirited driving, which matched the tiny cars handling performance.

The Leader Of The Pack

The Ka has been the best selling car in its class for many years in the UK. This has seen a whole host of variants available, with the initial basic spec gradually getting improved as the years rolled on. The introduction of a luxury model with leather seats, a heated windscreen, and many other luxuries, appealed to a different type of person, as did the Sport Ka and Street Ka, which were both aimed at the younger generation.
