Mixed Reviews

Upon its release the Fiat Stilo received mixed reviews from the motoring press. Many journalists believed Fiat had gone too bland, after the quirkiness of the outgoing Brava/Bravo. It wasn’t just the looks that were under attack, with journalists also complaining about what they deemed as excessive weight, and poor rear suspension. The Stilo did however win back some of the media with its high levels of grip and excellent brakes.

New Model, New Technology

When the Stilo was introduced Fiat fitted it with a radar guided cruise control option, but it was soon dropped when it was deemed to be too easily interfered with. It was also the first car to feature the TRW column drive electric power assisted steering (EPS). Despite all Fiat’s best efforts the Stilo never sold as well as they expected, and it features in the Economist magazine’s report on Europe’s Biggest Loss Making Cars.
