A Rapid Rise
Citroen was the first mass-production car company outside the United States. In less than a decade they were Europe’s biggest car company, and the fourth largest in the world. The Traction Avant was the world’s first front wheel drive mass-produced car. The innovations kept coming thick and fast for Citroen with a long list of achievements, including the first European car with Disc Brakes and the first all steel-bodied car.
Citroen has won many awards over the years. They have been awarded the European Car of the Year three times. In 1967 they introduced swiveling headlights to provide greater visibility on winding roads. People who are familiar with more modern models will know just how far ahead of their time they were. They are also the only manufacturer to win three different International Automobile Federation championships.
