As the name implies, the fuel tank is where the fuel the vehicle needs to function is stored. All vehicles have a fuel tank but can vary in size and capacity and material. Fuel levels are monitored by a fuel sensor which alerts the driver when you are close to empty.
Over time, fuel tanks can leak or corrode especially in old metal versions. When this happens, your fuel system may become blocked triggering your engine management light may come on. Your vehicle may also cut out. Before you rush out to replace your fuel tank, check to make sure it is not your fuel lines or fuel sensor which is the cause of the problem. Or the tank may require cleaning.
If your fuel tank has reached the end of it’s life cycle, it can be easily replaced at low cost but it is advisable to use a qualified mechanic.
