The EGR Valve (The Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve) is a very important component. Located near your exhaust manifold, it helps your vehicle to run more efficiently and control NOX emissions – failure to do so can result in an MOT failure.
A defective EGR Valve means the engine receives too much or too little gas which affects the overall performance of the vehicle and fuel consumption. You may poor accelerating, and may throw off the engine timing causing the vehicle to stall.
In many instances, you do not need to replace the EGR Valve. The EGR Valve may be stuck or blocked so a good clean can solve the issue. If you have checked all these potential factors and your are experiencing performance issues then it is most likely the EGR Valve will need replacing.
