A huge success

The 156 was produced for a decade between 1997 and 2007, and with 680,000 units being produced in Pomigliano d’Arco and Rayong, Alfa Romeo were on to a winner. The saloon and estate versions offered enough configuration options to appeal to most motorists, and just in case any one needed any more convincing, Alfa Romeo stuck Catherine Zeta Jones in the adverts to sway them.

Styling well done

The 156 looks much sportier than many of its contemporaries, with hidden rear door handles and prominent front ones, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for a coupe at a glance. In true Alfa Romeo fashion, the interior was more about the driver than passengers. The interior dials and instruments were all angled to create a cockpit feel to the car, and the front seats were very comfortable and roomy.
