When Toyota decided to replace the Carina E they chose to build its successor in Derby in the UK. It has continued to be built there since 1997. The Avensis proved popular all over Europe, creating another sales hit for Toyota. The name Avensis was chosen because they thought it was more modern. In Latin it translates literally as ‘to carry away’.
A Slow Grower
Despite being based on the Carina E, the only common major part was the engine, with the body and chassis being completely new. Over the years the Avensis has increased in size and power, as well as becoming more economical. These changes have helped to keep it in line with the competition, the Mazda 6, the Ford Mondeo, the VW Passat and the Citroen C5.
Why wait any longer? Start making savings right now.
