A Rocky History

The second generation Saab 9-5 was the first car to be released while Saab were under the ownership of Spyker, although most of the development had happened while Saab were owned by GM. The first generation 9-5 ran for a decade from 1999 before getting its first overhaul in 2009. Saab originally excluded the dash from the model badge, but started using it again to ensure the correct pronunciation, the Nine Five, not Ninety-Five.

Aerodynamic Advantage

Early Saabs were famous for their aerodynamic efficiency, and many older models still have lower drag coefficients than much newer cars. This was largely put down to Saabs routes in the Aeronautical industry, which obviously requires extremely efficient design. The 9-5 was a popular model at the time, but Saab’s subsequent demise hindered owners greatly, and put off potential customers. This means that carrying out repairs to a 9-5 can be excessively expensive.
